Meet our committee
The camp committee is made up of a number of
Christians who come
from churches in East Anglia.
Chairman - Phil Sparkes (pictured with his wife Jan Sparkes)

I have been involved with Suffolk Christian Camps
since 1988 when my wife, Jan, and I took over from Paul & Carol
Golding to run the boys’ camp. The camps were reorganized in 1990
into the format we now have, and Jan & I then led the Junior Camp
until Andy & Amanda Kirk took over from us in 2002, and I
subsequently became chairman.
I have worked for BT (and now Openreach) since I left school in
1970, carrying out various tasks, including maintenance of telephone
systems, and am currently involved with surveying and planning in
the local telephone network.
Jan and I run The Marriage Course once a year at West Road Church in
Bury St Edmunds, where I am also one of the elders. We also enjoy
walking and playing tennis together, and play most Saturday mornings
at around 8am (if we can drag ourselves out of bed!) for about an
hour.
It has been so encouraging to see the way people of all ages have
not only enjoyed their stay on the campsite, but also to learn how
both youngsters and adults have had their lives revitalized by The
Living God. I count it a privilege to be part of this camp, where
God still changes lives for the better.
Secretary - Rachael Wallace
If you have a question, or want to make a booking, then Rachael is the person to contact!
"I am married to Mark and have a son called Nathan
who is almost 10. I live in Thurston and am now in my sixth year as
secretary for camp. I cook for junior camp week 1 which I enjoy. I
enjoy cross stitching and card making. My Church is High Street
Chapel Hopton where I lead the team running the ladies coffee
evening and am involved in the worship group. Camp is a big part of
my life and each year look forward to what God can do through the
work of camp.

My name is Paul Golding and I am married to Carol. We have two
children James and Louise and five grand-children. We live in
Leiston and for 22 years were the managers of Sizewell Hall. We used
to be the leaders of boys camp and have been involved with camp for
many years. Paul has worked very hard on the new Barn.
Henry Matter
I'm a photographer and mixed media artist, currently working as a caretaker also.
I have been attending Suffolk Christian Camps in one form or another, since I was 8 years old, and have always loved it.
I was baptized during Summer Madness a few years ago, and continue to help at junior camp and summer madness. I'm a photographer and mixed media artist, currently working as a caretaker also.
Jan Sparkes (pictured above)
I married Phil in 1974 and we have 2 sons (both married) and 4
grandchildren.
I cooked at the girls’ camp until 1988, when Phil & I took over
running the boys’ camp, and subsequently the Junior mixed camp for 2
weeks each year until 2001. I now do the cooking for one of the
weeks.
I trained as a school meals cook, and was appointed as head cook at
Thurston Upper School (catering for 600 students) when I was 21.
Looking after the grandchildren and my 94 year old mum keep me busy!
Peter Warnock
Peter is married to Lynne and they are the
managers of Sizewell Hall. They have two Sons
Tim Warnock
Tim is married to Filly and they
live in Stowmarket. They attend The Forge Church in Debenham where
they are involved with the youth work. Tim and Filly are both
workers at Junior camp week 1 and Tim has done a lot of work on the
new “Barn”.
